Heather Harmsen, Registered Dietician, BSc (Med)(Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics (UCT)

I completed my dietetic training at the University of Cape Town in 2005 before setting off on a new chapter of working and travelling in the UK. What had started as a short term plan ended up being over 8 years practicing as a community dietitian in London. I realised my love for working with people at the heart of their community and helping them incorporate healthy nutrition into their daily lives.  My experience covers a wide range of nutritional areas including dietary management of diabetes, cardiac rehabilitation, weight management, elderly care and gastrointestinal conditions.

I enjoyed creating and delivering many group programmes within the community and worked within many diverse and multicultural settings. Having a major in psychology, this special interest led me to attend and explore several training courses on motivational counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy for dietitians.  I also enjoy health writing and contributing to nutrition articles.

I have since returned to Cape Town and love being back! I also have two small children and love finding new and exciting ways to nourish them with good nutrition!
